History
On June 9, 1919, twelve men from the community around East 93rd Stret and Orleans Avenue were granted a state charter to organize and operate the Orleans Building and Loan Association of Cleveland. Its assets after the first month of operation on a part-time basis amounted to $12,800. Today, this association is known as Century Bank.
The association was headed by the late Peter Kavulla, who diligently served the organization for more than 48 years before his death. Throughout his tenure, Kavulla maintained a sound policy of conservatism, which carried the business successfully through the Depression of the early 1930’s without any depositors losing one cent.
Since its organization in 1919, Century Bank has experienced successful growth with much of the success coming at a time when many small community banks were being swallowed up by large organizations. Century moved its main office to Parma in 1976, and operates branch offices in Garfield Heights, North Royalton, Brunswick, and Concord.
Today, the operations of the Bank are run by President and Chief Executive Officer, Jeffrey J. Calabrese. With more than 35 years of banking experience at community banks, Mr. Calabrese was hired by Century Bank in February 2003 to grow the company’s assets, and in January 2004, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer. As of September 30, 2008, Century Bank’s assets have grown to nearly $149 million. Century Bank maintains a strong commitment of bringing in deposits from the communities of its branch locations and lending those deposits back into the same communities for the construction and purchase of residential housing.
Century Bank is a full-service community bank. The bank offers an array of products and services such as free checking, savings and money market accounts, free online banking and bill payment, residential mortgages, small commercial real estate loans, and home equity lines of credit.
